The Art Hostel
We always dreamt of owning our very own hostel, inspired by accommodation we encountered on our travels we saw a real opportunity to build an affordable yet inspiring place to stay here in Leeds.
Contributing to the overall Leeds experience the Art Hostel creates a space to make, debate, sleep and explore the more independent and creative side of the city.
Once nested on the characterful street of Kirkgate we proudly propped the door open to thousands of people worldwide visiting Leeds. With each room offering an insight into a different artists mind it acts as a brilliant portal directly into the underbelly of Leeds’ creative scene.
Throughout the growth of the Art Hostel we’ve had the pleasure to commission and work alongside a broad range of artists – Precious Collective, Kamiel Verschuren, Drew Millward, Edwin Li, Leeds Hackspace and Hannah Stacy to name a few.
After a thriving couple of years at our temporary home of Kirkgate we’re now extremely excited to have made the move across the city to our new permanent place in our already beloved Mabgate. It is a unique hospitality experience and the first of its kind in the UK, providing affordable & original accommodation created by artists.
And as a social enterprise for East Street Arts, all of our profits are reinvested into the arts community in a direct and meaningful way.
Part of our creative Mabgate Complex, the new Art Hostel is situated next door to East Street Arts HQ, Patrick Studios and art and tech hub, Convention House.
As well as guests the Art Hostel has been home to an extraordinary, ever changing team of volunteers. We’ve hosted people from far and wide offering them an unique way to live and work here Leeds. A beautiful exchange of time for experiences, lasting memories and friendships that’ll last forever. Fancy becoming a part of our friendly Art Hostel family? Do get in touch.
