My Environment Summer School 2022

In August we welcomed 18 young people to a week-long summer school of creative activities around the theme of ‘My Environment’. After the success of the 2021 Summer School, the young people requested the focus for 2022 be around Sustainability.

Activities included mushroom printing, clay tile making with Burmantofts Senior Action, and green screen workshops, with Sable Studio, where we scripted, created and filmed our own talk show. We also went for a day trip to Otley farm where we walked baby goats, foraged and fed farm animals. Finally, we made portraits with foraged materials, which we then photocopied and pasted up as a colourful wall mural in Mabgate for all to see.
Alongside the residency we had artist Michaela Lesayova on a Climate Residency, exploring what sustainable living can look like in MLGB. As part of the residency, she invited young people at the Summer School to bring in kitchen scraps and collected waste plant materials to natural dye fabrics and tote bags.
We concluded the week with a Summer Special event, with birthday cake, free ice cream, music by Sable Studio, and a natural dye workshop for all the family.

Other things!
