Two exhibitions exploring natural colour, from Leeds to Indonesia, on show together this October.
Gathered Colour and Natural Colour Atlas are two connected exhibitions on show together in the Project Space at Patrick Studios this October, both exploring natural colour.
The exhibitions open together on Friday 16 October, with an opening night and artist talks from 5 to 8pm. They then remain on display from Saturday 17 to Sunday 25 October, 10am to 4:30pm, viewings by appointment.
Gathered Colour
Gathered Colour is a community-focused creative project led by textile artist and printmaker Kirstie Williams, exploring the connections between plants, colour, creativity and community across Leeds.
Working with Leeds Print Workshop, Pyramid of Arts, Stitch-Up CIC and MAFWA Theatre, the project has run planting sessions, natural dyeing workshops and plant-based printing sessions with community groups from across the city, growing dye plants from seed and creating textile pieces exploring their own experiences of community. These contributions come together in one large collaborative textile artwork celebrating the diversity of Leeds.
Gathered Colour is supported by funding from Leeds City Council’s Cultural Development Programme and is part of Leeds 400.
Natural Colour Atlas
Natural Colour Atlas is a collaboration between Kirstie Williams, Nidiya Kusmaya and Bintan Titisari, sharing personal and collective journeys with natural colour between West Yorkshire and West Java, Indonesia. The project looks at how climate, landscape, culture and heritage shape colour identity across the two regions, bringing together plant dyes, pigments, materials and research from both countries.
Part one of the exhibition showed in Bandung, Indonesia in September 2026. This second showing at Patrick Studios also includes a Natural Lake Pigment workshop with Nidiya Kusmaya, on Saturday 17 October, 1:30 to 4pm, at Leeds Print Workshop.
