Latent Power is a strikingly bold sculpture by Rebecca Appleby, which sits outside Kirkstall Leisure Centre.
The bold, large-scale abstract sculpture is a celebration of the rich industrial heritage and a symbol of the innovative spirit that continues to drive the Kirkstall community. It takes inspiration from the industrial heritage built around Kirkstall Abbey, Kirkstall Forge and the surrounding area.
The striking yellow colour was chosen specifically to represent industry and construction, from road markings to vehicles and machinery used in modern construction, while the design represents a deconstructed water wheel emulating the wheel that powered the forge that employed generations of workers in the local area.
Commissioned in partnership with Leeds City Council’s Town and District Centre improvement scheme, Latent Power is part of our A City Less Grey programme.
