The session is led by charcoal artist Kenneth Uzoigwe, whose practice explores silence, memory and identity through figurative drawing. Participants will learn how to observe a face, understand facial proportions, and work with light, shadow and tone to build depth and expression, leaving with a completed charcoal portrait and techniques to keep practising at home. Bring one clear head and shoulders portrait photograph, printed or on a phone or tablet, of yourself, a family member or a friend. All charcoal, paper and materials are provided.

The workshop takes place at East Street Arts, Saint Mary’s Lane, Leeds, on Saturday 22 August 2026 from 11am to 2pm. Tickets are £5 per person, with just 10 spaces available.
