On the 6th June 2017 work begun NOMAD’s A City Less Grey installation; the giant artwork, standing 137 ft. (41.9m) tall will be the UK’s tallest piece of street art, as well as being the finishing touch to a major refurbishment of the landmark building which is to be its canvas. This ambitious and bold mural, entitled ‘Athena Rising’, is to be painted the full length of the east elevation of the Platform building, formerly known as City House, and will be visible from station platforms and beyond.

The piece will take up to four weeks to complete. The striking design, which will be 137ft x 36ft / 41.9m high and 11m wide, features an owl in flight as its centrepiece, alongside the moon and a crown – a nod to the artists involved.

Artist Bio:

Nomad Clan is the collective of Cbloxx and AYLO, an internationally-acclaimed, street art muralist duo based in Manchester in the North of England, proudly sponsored by Kobra Spray Paint.

When the pair collaborate the fusion delivers an unmistakeable style. Each mural has a strong significance to the environment it sits in, combining playful scenes often from local heritage with detailed portraits of characters from some of the the tales they hear in the local watering hole’s. The main focus of the work is to proudly celebrate local history but on a deeper level often contains the socioeconomic issues effecting the area, for example the demise of the fishing industry, the closures of mills and lack of jobs, inner city social deprivation, etc.

Nomad Clan have been noted as ‘One of street art’s finest female duos’ by Widewalls magazine the worlds largest street art online publication, as well as ‘Street arts hottest UK talent’ by Global Street Art and pegged as one of the top 5 female street artist in the world by The Guardian News Paper.

Previous clients include Vans shoes, BBC, St Pauls Cathedral, Southbank Centre London, York Minster, West Yorkshire Playhouse, WY Sculpture Park, Coors Beer, Doc Martins.

Nomad Clan are experienced giant muralist, having painted some of the largest murals in England. The biggest to date is a 7 story Nomad Clan mural in Liverpool, the first of its type to adorn one of the city centre buildings! 2017 is set to be a busy year, in April/May Nomad Clan will paint the UKs tallest street art mural in the City of Leeds.
