“For in much wisdom is much grief, and he that increaseth knowledge, increaseth sorrow” – Ecclesiastes 1:18
Join us in assembling a truly terrible collection of vinyl record covers, and finish the week by helping us choose which ones deserve to be listened to in the safety of a special taste-free zone in the heart of Leeds.
Come on, fess up. We know you have records in your collection with artwork that is just plain dull, substandard or naff (oh yes you do). But do you have some real Vinyl Tat?
If you have something that you think hits the mark, then bring it along to add to the exhibition. Leave your name with us and we’ll make sure you’re honoured with a ‘From the collection of…’ tag by your Tat.
Or this could be your opportunity to finally shed the burden of ownership. How does a ‘Donated By…’ tag sound to proudly announce your divorce?
Some of you may even have made the mistake of listening to the vinyl between the covers, and you might be brazen enough to want to hear it played out in public. Bring it along, recommend a track and we’ll dedicate it to you in our evening of dubious aural entertainment.
Oh, but maybe you want to keep your guilty pleasure a secret… Don’t worry! Anonymous contributions, donations and dedications are our speciality. Buy us a drink and we might not even sprag!
Vinyl Tat falls into, stretches across and soils many genres. Here’s a little taster of what we’re looking for:
Domestic Blitz: mock domestic scenes
Hot Diggidy No Dignity: ravages of time and fashion
Great Pretenders: singing nuns, school choirs, whistling postmen
Casualties: lifestyle advice, exercise routines
Buy Me Love: product placement promotional records
Go on, take the challenge!
Don’t forget, you can browse all of the bad record sleeves which have being submitted in our Vinyl Tat Gallery! Be inspired by this collection of truly bad cover art and get involved.
