Sue Watts

I am artist who works predominantly as a painter. My work is abstract and in the last few years has explored an ongoing preoccupation with layers and texture. This is partly inspired by the rich mixture of lives and experiences that have crossed my path and also by my involvement in music-making and theatre. More recently I have started to experiment with light and shadow and colour has become increasingly important. I often work with acrylics and a wide range of mixed media including cloth, ink and plaster.

I was born in Leeds but spent my early years travelling in the Middle-East and Europe before returning and later studying at Leeds Art College. For some years I worked as a nurse, midwife and social worker before returning to serious art practise and now work from my studio at East Street Arts in Leeds.

In recent years I have exhibited in:

• The Mall Gallery, London
• Leeds City Art Gallery
• Leeds City Art Library
• The Glasshouse Gallery, Leeds
• HOST Media Centre. Leeds
• Bretton Hall, Wakefield

My work is also in many private collections.
