Sandra Whyles is a Visual Artist and Maker. Her main art practice uses ceramics, photography and printing. She has over 17 years experience and knowledge of studio pottery. Within this time she has studied up to MA level in fine art and is now a full time practising artist. She is a member of East Street Arts and has an independent studio.
Within her practice, Sandra investigates and experiments with the English and Chinese ceramic blue and white tradition, bringing into view the forgotten, the familiar and the hidden imagery and pictograms of African and Caribbean traditions, culture and life.
She was a quarter finalist in the BBC 2 programme The Great Pottery Throw down in 2016. The first of it’s kind and has been part of raising the profile of pottery throughout the UK.
