My drawings, photographs and videos constantly reference the marine environment. The common thread running through my work is our individual and collective relation to the world around us; the different ‘distances’ between ourselves and everything else: spatial, temporal, emotional, cultural and imagined. My recent work has focused on whales, whale carcasses, whale products and the place of these great mammals in the human imagination. Thanks to a grant by The Leverhulme Trust, I was artist in residence at the Maritime Historical Studies Centre of University of Hull in 2013, where I created a new body of work in response to the whaling archives of this city. Upcoming projects in 2014 include an solo exhibition in Santander, Spain in May and a group show in Wayfarers in New York in the summer.
My studio is at Patrick Studios in Leeds.
