The aim of our membership scheme is to support artists and arts professionals, providing them with skills, advice and resources to help further their development. By joining this well-established community, members can actively engage with a national visual arts network, access opportunities, apply for workspace and participate in the annual open studios programme.
Working alongside artists, we offer tailor-made support providing a platform for the research and development of their ideas.
Membership funds contribute towards a wide range of resources and benefits for artists and support a monthly members’ newsletter, open studios, members’ commissions, workshops, free AV hire, website promotion, artists’ studios and rehearsal space.
East Street Arts’ membership is a yearly subscription aimed at artists and arts professionals who want to access any of the benefits listed below, connect with the organisation and members, receive news and opportunity notices, and support the work of East Street Arts as a national arts charity.

Annual Open Studios
The annual Members’ Open Studios takes place every autumn; its aim is to celebrate the breadth of art practice across ESA’s members and workspaces. If you are a member without a workspace you can still get involved with the accompanying exhibition, the printed catalogue, or by proposing your own performance or workshop.
Members’ Exclusive Opportunities
Our public programme provides exclusive member opportunities including commissions, a chance to run a workshop, be part of a talk or discussion panel, or inclusion in our exhibitions and projects. All of our opportunities and calls for submissions are featured in the members’ email so look out for them!
1:1 Mentoring & Professional Development
We offer one-to-one sessions to our members who want to talk about any aspect of their practice from practical needs, application forms, to funding bids or financial and business advice. We also periodically run portfolio sessions with lead artists and host talks from artists and industry specialists. If you would like a one-to-one meeting email: chris [at] esamail.org.uk
We have a collection of equipment that we can hire out to our members for free. Based at Patrick Studios (Leeds) this includes cameras, tripods, digital or overhead projectors, slide scanners/projectors, DVD players and TVs. All hire is on a short-term loan basis. If you need equipment for longer we may be able to help. For enquiries and bookings email: chris [at] esamail.org.uk
In 2012 we visited Lille (France) with a group of 15 members to experience the city’s art festival ‘Fantastic’ and to meet with a number of artists and organisations. Its aim was to provide members with the chance to benefit from some of the links we make as an organisation and to experience artistic infrastructure from other places. Out next trip is in March 2014 to Barcelona (Spain). If you are interested then email: hondartza [at] esamail.org.uk
Within Patrick Studios, our purpose-built studio complex in Leeds, we have an array of resources for our members. This includes a communal members area with iMac computers that feature Office Suite and CS5/CS6 design software, and free printing and photocopying facilities. We also have a bookable Meeting Room and a range of monthly art subscriptions. Barkston House in Holbeck houses our specialist ceramic facilities and studios with a classroom for workshops and classes.
Opening Nights / Events
All of our public exhibitions and events are open to the public including non-members and are usually free. If it is a limited capacity event then members will have priority and if there is a cost involved we will endeavour to offer a members’ discount.
