David Armes at 130 Vicar Lane

Dates & Times:
Throughout September 2017

Venue: East Street Arts – Vicar Lane
130 Vicar Lane, Leeds, LS2 7NL

Come and explore the findings of the archaeological dig which happened underneath what is now Victoria Gate shopping centre! Lots of interesting things were found from skeletons to wooden bobbins to the floor of a swimming pool!

Discover what else we found and learn about what it tells us about the history of Leeds.

Artist David Armes is working with East Street Arts and West Yorkshire Archaeological Services to explore and respond to the finds of the dig through his practice of print and letterpress. David is interested in the archaeological classification systems and the parallels with the classification systems used within letterpress such as typeface, point size and font strength. David will also be exploring how the finds of the archaeological dig can be used to create marks, traces and prints.

This project is a collaboration between East Street Arts and West Yorkshire Archaeological Services, supported by Victoria Leeds.
