Domicile: The country that a person treats as their home, or lives in and has a substantial connection with.

A project, A pilgrimage, A dialogue.

Domicile is a project seeking to open creative links between Leeds and Lille around the shared theme of home by harnessing the power of the peddle for one week in November.

The project is facilitated by the commissioned artist Ben Mills who will be based in a cafe in Lille. He will be making a metaphorical journey back to Leeds by cycling a stationary bike generator 400 miles over 7 days. The generator will support an internet link between the two cities over which 10 selected artists will present their responses to the project and the theme of home.

The project will be free to view for the public from two locations over the week. Artist’s in Leeds will be live casting from Outlaws Yacht Club (Leeds) at regular intervals and Ben will be cycling at Cafe Le Vega (Lille). What is happening in both locations through the week will be projected into the opposite cafe.

Commissioned by East Street Arts and L’Entorse. The project Velo Café Renaissance is a project by L’Entorse and Kraft and it consists of a programme of events inspired by bikes and cycling that will take place in various cafes across Lille and that will coincide with the cultural programme Lille3000.

This project is part of a new partnership project between East Street Arts (Leeds), l’Entorse (Lille, France) and Vooruit (Ghent, Belgium) entitled Ex[s]ports, and funded by EU – Creative Europe.
