Artists Open Doors

Dates & Times:
Tuesday 22nd September 2015 (6pm – 8pm)

Venue: Patrick Studios Project Space
St Mary’s Lane, Leeds, LS9 7EH.

We are celebrating our current artists in residence at East Street Arts with an evening of open doors. Mawatres and Rosa Parma have come all the way from Bilbao in the final part of an exchange with BilbaoArte Foundation and Rebecca Appleby is a Leeds based artist working with sculpture and installation. This evening is an opportunity to meet the artists and see what they have been up to over the last month, and to hear about their experiences during the residency.

Mawatres is developing a work that explores the idea of monument as a response to a political, historical or social situation. The notion of monument in itself speaks about Death and Glory, as the title of ‘The Clash’ song. He will focus on small gestures or punctual actions to construct a process of commemorative drawing.

Rosa Parma is using her time in Leeds to explore the figure of the feminist writer Doar Marsden, born in Yorkshire, and her most immediate surroundings, through readings, drawings and photographic records.

Rebecca Appleby has been an East Street Arts studio holder for many years and this residency was an opportunity to explore new materials and new beginnings in her practice, asking herself questions of form, scale and surface.

This event is free and open to all, there will be some refreshments available. RSVP here.
